Bidets vs. Toilets: What’s the difference?

The popularity of bidets rose when more people worked from home and wanted to stay comfy in the bathroom. If you don’t have one by now, you may wonder why they’re special or what makes them a must-have for so many people. Whether you want some elaborate or simple bathroom ideas to breathe new life into a tired space, see how bidets and toilets stack up and which one is best for you.

What is a bidet?

Bidets are common bathroom units found in Asia and Europe. It connects to your plumbing and lets you clean off with a pleasant stream of water. In the same way you need a plumber to install a toilet, a bidet requires professional installation from a company like Blessed Plumbing or Buckeye Heating Cooling Plumbing. The bidet can take the place of your toilet paper or go along with the TP to help you feel fresh and clean.

Bidet types

Bidets come in a few different types, such as a bidet toilet. Usually installed right next to the toilet, it’s a permanent addition to your home that takes up some floor space. A bidet toilet seat works with your existing toilet and plumbing system. You get all of the features you want in a compact package. Also available are bidet attachments that look like a shower or kitchen sink sprayer. While there are also different types of toilets, the one that compares best to a bidet is a washlet.

Toilet vs. bidet

When comparing these items, keep in mind that a bidet cannot replace a toilet. Bidet drains look similar to shower or sink drains and cannot collect and dispose of human waste in a sanitary way by themselves. Instead, bidets are designed to work in tandem.

While toilets and bidets are among the bathroom design ideas you can use, you need to know the difference. Toilets provide a basin of water where you relieve yourself. If you just have a toilet, you will wipe with paper before you flush in order to send the waste into the drain pipes. If you also have a bidet, you can clean yourself at this location instead of wiping.

Other features of bidets

The higher-end bidets warm the water and can even set it to the specific temperature you want. You’ll find models that have dials or knobs for a tactile experience and others that come with a remote and a touchscreen.

While both toilets and bidets help you clean up, some prefer using the water of a bidet over TP. Once you decide which one to pick, follow us on Instagram or use Facebook to discover even more ways to update your bathroom.
