The Importance of Choosing the Right Window Fixtures

Expert tips on choosing window fixtures for your home

If you are wondering if purchasing fixtures for your home’s windows is a great idea, then the answer is a resounding yes. While the term fixtures can refer to several different things in regard to home decor, the majority of people use the term in correlation with window treatments like blinds, and that is what we will focus on in this article.

Determining factors

Since there is such a wide variety of treatments available to you, there are several considerations that you will want to factor in before making your purchase.

1. Insulation

While you may not think of window blinds as being effective at insulating your home, they are. If you live in an area that is susceptible to wide temperature fluctuations, then you will want to choose blinds that have a reflective or white backing that insulates your interior from exterior temperatures.

2. Humidity

If you live in an area that is quite humid, you will want to choose blinds that are crafted from material capable of withstanding the humidity in the air. Some recommended options include metal and faux wood. These are also excellent choices for rooms, such as the bathroom, that are exposed to humidity no matter where you live.

3. Size

Think about the size of the window that the blinds will be covering and choose treatments that are easy to open and close in conjunction with the layout of the windows.

Types of blinds

There are also several different types of blinds that you can choose from, all of which most people are already familiar with.

1. Venetian

Probably the most common of blinds, they consist of horizontal slats that compress up into each other when the blinds are drawn up.

2. Vertical

If your window is wider than it is tall, then this is the type of window fixture for you. These also offer the best control of outside lighting entering your home, so they are perfect for areas like the bedroom, living room, or home theater room.

3. Panel

These are usually constructed of much heavier fabric material than traditional blinds and are used on windows that cover a large area, such as a bay window or a sliding glass door by the patio. They are the easiest way to ensure that nobody can see through the large windows in your home.

4. Wood

While generally constructed from faux wood and not natural wood, these types of blinds still don’t fail to impress when it comes to aesthetics. Wood offers an inviting appeal to it. You can find wood blinds in virtually every color, finish, and shade that you can imagine.
